December 12, 2017: There are nearly 11,000 registered lobbyists working in Washington, D.C., and 6,243 of them worked on tax issues this year. That’s roughly 11 lobbyists for every member of Congress.[1]

Lobbyists are required to file reports of the issues they lobby on. Among those who identified taxes as one of their issues, more than 4,200 specifically reported working on tax reform.

Twenty-six industries hired at least 150 lobbyists to work on taxes this year. Pharmaceuticals and insurance companies topped the list.
