Scott Rasmussen's Number of the Day for December 13, 2018
The Number of the Day columns published on Ballotpedia reflect the views of the author.
December 13, 2018: With less than two weeks to go until Christmas, 18% of Americans have not even started their holiday shopping. That total includes 8% who have started looking but haven’t actually bought anything yet.[1]
At the other extreme, ScottRasmussen.com polling data shows that 29% have already finished. That includes 10% who wrapped things up before Thanksgiving.
One of the fun trends to watch every year is the way people get caught up in holiday shopping. A month ago, just 15% said they planned to spend more this year than they spent last year, while 29% were hoping to spend less. But, just like every year, people have gotten a little less budget conscious as the year goes on. Now, 19% say they will spend more this year compared to last, and just 20% say they will spend less.
Wherever they may be in the process, 61% will do at least half of their holiday shopping online.
