December 25, 2018: Eighty-nine percent (89%) of Americans are celebrating Christmas today.[1]
Among those who celebrate, a ScottRasmussen.com national survey found that 33% consider it primarily a religious holiday, 29% think of it primarily as a secular holiday, and 38% include both religious and secular elements in their celebration.
Gift-giving has long been part of the Christmas tradition. Sixty percent (60%) of those celebrating this year are opening presents this morning. Another 29% did their primary gift exchange last night on Christmas Eve. Seven percent (7%) do so at some other time, and 4% do not exchange gifts at all.
As part of the season, 89% of the celebrants put up decorations and 61% sing Christmas carols.
