The Number of the Day columns published on Ballotpedia reflect the views of the author.
December 4, 2024: Eighty-two percent (82%) of voters strongly (53%) or somewhat (29%) favor a proposal prohibiting foreign governments and companies controlled by foreign governments from purchasing land in the United States. A Napolitan News Service national survey conducted by RMG Research found that just 12% somewhat (8%) or strongly (4%) oppose this proposal.
The survey also found that, after being told a quarter of American land is owned by the federal government, 47% would strongly (17%) or somewhat (30%) favor a rule requiring the government to sell land before acquiring more. Twenty-seven percent (27%) would somewhat (18%) or strongly (9%) oppose such a rule.
Methodology
The survey of 1,000 registered voters was conducted online by Scott Rasmussen on November 20-21, 2024. Fieldwork for the survey was conducted by RMG Research, Inc. Certain quotas were applied, and the sample was lightly weighted by geography, gender, age, race, education, internet usage, and political party to reasonably reflect the nation’s population of registered voters. Other variables were reviewed to ensure that the final sample is representative of that population. The margin of sampling error for the full sample is +/- 3.1 percentage points.
Scott Rasmussen is the president of RMG Research, Inc.
