December 7, 2023: On December 7, 1941, the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor, drawing the United States into World War II. Three hundred and fifty-three (353) Japanese aircraft were launched from six Japanese aircraft carriers on a bombing raid against 97 U.S. ships and 390 U.S. aircraft at the base.[1]
The attack resulted in 2,403 Americans killed and a further 1,178 military and civilian personnel wounded. The Japanese lost 65 servicemen in the attack, including 64 killed and one captured.[1]
