February 01, 2023: Sixty-seven percent (67%) of voters say that a high school student who was born a boy but identifies as a girl and retains the physical characteristics and reproductive organs of a man should be required to use the men’s restroom. A Scott Rasmussen national survey found that 27% say that the student should be allowed to choose the restroom to use. Just 6% believe that person should be required to use the women’s restroom.

The survey also found that, even among the youngest voters— those under 35— a solid majority (57%) say that the student should be required to use the men’s restroom. Seventy-nine percent (79%) of those over 65 share that view.

Methodology

The survey of 1,000 registered voters was conducted online by Scott Rasmussen on January 18-19, 2023. Field work for the survey was conducted by RMG Research, Inc. Certain quotas were applied, and the sample was lightly weighted by geography, gender, age, race, education, internet usage, and political party to reasonably reflect the nation’s population of registered voters. Other variables were reviewed to ensure that the final sample is representative of that population.

The margin of sampling error for the full sample is +/- 3.1 percentage points.

Survey Question

On a different topic, suppose that a high school student is born as a boy but chooses to identify as a girl. However, that person retains all the physical characteristics and reproductive organs of a man. Should that person be required to use the men’s restroom, required to use the women’s restroom, or allowed to choose which restroom to use?

  • 67%-Required to use the men’s restroom
  • 6%-Required to use the women’s restroom
  • 27%-Allowed to choose which restroom to use
