February 06, 2023: Seventy-three percent (73%) of voters think that it is reasonable to cut future spending in exchange for raising the debt ceiling. A Scott Rasmussen national survey found that this includes large majorities of both Republicans (80%) and Democrats (71%).
The survey also found that, by a margin of 62% to 36%, voters favor a requirement that any plan to raise the debt ceiling should include modest cuts in spending for all federal agencies.
Methodology
The survey of 1,000 registered voters was conducted online by Scott Rasmussen on January 24-26, 2023. Field work for the survey was conducted by RMG Research, Inc. Certain quotas were applied, and the sample was lightly weighted by geography, gender, age, race, education, internet usage, and political party to reasonably reflect the nation’s population of registered voters. Other variables were reviewed to ensure that the final sample is representative of that population.
The margin of sampling error for the full sample is +/- 3.1 percentage points.
