February 14, 2018: Valentine’s Day is about far more than romance. Sixty-two percent (62%) of Americans celebrate the holiday, and part of the celebration involves purchasing 58 million pounds of chocolate candy. A lot of that chocolate goes into 36 million heart-shaped boxes that are sold for the holiday.[1]
Valentines’ Day also inspires the sale of 174,000 gallons of sparkling wine.
Overall, Americans spend nearly half a billion dollars on more than 150 million cards and gifts. The average man spends $150, and the average woman spends $74.
