February 17, 2023: Fifty-one percent (51%) of voters say that a degree today is not worth the cost of attending a four year university. Despite that, a Scott Rasmussen national survey found that 54% have a favorable view of U.S. colleges and universities/

The survey found that 77% believe there are good alternatives to college for young people looking for jobs that can provide for themselves and their families. Seventy-seven percent (77%) also say that it is common for employers to require a degree for jobs that someone without a degree could do just as well.

Methodology

The survey of 1,000 Registered Voters was conducted online by Scott Rasmussen on February 2-4, 2023. Field work for the survey was conducted by RMG Research, Inc. Certain quotas were applied, and the sample was lightly weighted by geography, gender, age, race, education, internet usage, and political party to reasonably reflect the nation’s population of Registered Voters. Other variables were reviewed to ensure that the final sample is representative of that population.

The margin of sampling error for the full sample is +/- 3.1 percentage points.
