February 27, 2023: On February 27, 1844, the Dominican Republic declared independence from Haiti. In the 179 years since, it has become the largest economy in the Caribbean, with a GDP of $109 billion, and the most visited destination in the region. It is home to 10.7 million people.
There are about 2 million Dominican Americans living in the United States today.[1]
