February 28, 2023: Sixty-nine percent (69%) of those with more than $100,000 in total investments say that they prefer safer investments with a lower return over riskier investments with the potential for a higher return. A Scott Rasmussen national survey found that 27% say the opposite.

The survey also found that two-thirds (66%) of that group owns stock in technology companies. Half (49%) own stock in oil and gas companies, 45% in banks and financial institutions, 39% in retail companies, 34% in transportation, and 30% in social media.

Methodology

The survey of 421 Registered Voters who have more than $100,000 in total investments was conducted online by Scott Rasmussen on February 16-17, 2023. Field work for the survey was conducted by RMG Research, Inc. Certain quotas were applied, and the sample was lightly weighted by geography, gender, age, race, education, internet usage, and political party to reasonably reflect the nation’s population of Registered Voters. Other variables were reviewed to ensure that the final sample is representative of that population.

The margin of sampling error for the full sample is +/- 4.8 percentage points.
