January 14, 2022: In terms of trade with other nations, 13% of voters believe the United States should consider only economic issues. A Scott Rasmussen national survey found that 75% believe national security and human rights issues should also be considered. [1]
A solid majority of every measured demographic group favors consideration of more than economic factors.[1]
If the United States sharply reduced trade with China, 27% believe it would hurt the U.S. more than China while 24% have the opposite view. A plurality (36%) believes both would be equally hurt.[1]
However, 77% of voters consider it at least somewhat likely that reducing trade with China would lead to higher prices and other economic challenges.[1]
