January 16, 2019: Seventeen (17) states require voters to show some form of photo ID at the polls before voting. Another 18 states require identification including forms of non-photo ID. In 15 states, no identification is required.
Federal law requires a new registrant to provide either a driver's license number or the last four digits of his or her Social Security number at the time of registration.
