January 18, 2024: As of January 9, 2024, 45 members of Congress have announced they will not seek re-election this year. This includes seven senators— five Democrats and two Republicans— and 38 house members— 22 Democrats and 16 Republicans.
At this point in 2022, 41 had announced they would not seek re-election, up from 38 at this point in 2020 and 40 at this point in 2018.
