January 22, 2024: Fifty-six percent (56%) of voters say that they know what it means when companies or colleges implement DEI programs. A Scott Rasmussen national survey found that, of that 56%, a majority (67%) believe that DEI programs are about promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion. An additional 20% believe these programs are focused on promoting diversity over merit.

The survey also found that 87% of voters would have either a very favorable (53%) or somewhat favorable (34%) opinion of a company which sought to hire the best person for the job regardless of gender, race, ethnicity, or religion.

Methodology

The margin of sampling error for the full sample is +/- 3.1 percentage points. The survey of 1,000 registered voters was conducted online by Scott Rasmussen on January 8-9, 2024. Field work for the survey was conducted by RMG Research, Inc. Certain quotas were applied, and the sample was lightly weighted by geography, gender, age, race, education, internet usage, and political party to reasonably reflect the nation’s population of registered voters. Other variables were reviewed to ensure that the final sample is representative of that population.

Note: Neither Scott Rasmussen, ScottRasmussen.com, nor RMG Research, Inc. have any affiliation with Rasmussen Reports. While Scott Rasmussen founded that firm, he left nearly a decade ago and has had no involvement since that time.
