January 23, 2025: Two hundred and eighty-eight (288) years ago, John Hancock was born. Hancock was the President of the Second Continental Congress which made him the first to sign the Declaration of Independence. Hancock was very active during the American Revolution. He contributed financially and helped raise supplies for the soldiers. He also helped in the creation of a navy. Hancock, while President of the Continental Congress, commissioned George Washington to be the commander in chief of the army. John Hancock’s actions during the American Revolution make it clear he believed in our nation’s founding ideals of freedom, equality, and self-governance.[1]
