January 25, 2023: 264 years ago, on January 25, 1759, the poet Robert Burns was born in western Scotland. His most famous poem, “Auld Lang Syne,” was written in 1788, when he was 29 years old.
Today the song is sung around the English speaking world at midnight on New Year’s Eve, as well as on numerous other occasions, making Robert Burns perhaps Scotland’s best known poet.[1]
