January 28, 2025: Thirty-nine years ago today, the Challenger disaster claims the lives of seven astronauts. Among those on board was teacher Christa McAuliffe, commander Francis Scobee, pilot Michael Smith, mission specialists Ellison Onizuka, Judith Resnic, and Ronald McNair, and Hughes Aircraft engineer Gregory Jarvis. The mission itself had a rough start, with severe cold causing weather delays for launch. An investigation into the accident would find a plethora of issues that were overlooked by NASA.[1]
