July 13, 2018: Just 29% of Americans have enough money in the bank to cover six months of living expenses.[1]
Experts have long recommended that families have enough savings to cover six months of living expenses. However, despite the fact that few have such resources available, 62% of Americans are at least somewhat comfortable with their level of savings. That figure includes 24% who are very comfortable with their savings.
Overall, 18% have three to five months worth of savings, 22% have fewer than three months of savings, and 23% have no savings to draw upon.
An earlier Number of the Day reported that 43 percent of millennials are saving for a vacation.
