July 18, 2024: Seventy-six percent (76%) of the 5,065 elections held in June across 25 states were uncontested. Over the past four months, an average of 74% of elections have been uncontested.
An uncontested election is when the number of candidates running is less than or equal to the number of seats up for election, so there is no alternative choice for voters. The state with the highest percentage of uncontested elections was New York, at 94%.
