July 21, 2025: One hundred and sixty-four years ago, on July 21, 1861, the First Battle of Bull Run occurred. This battle is the first major land battle of the Civil War. The Union Army was headed by General Irvin McDowell, and the Confederates were led by General Pierre G.T. Beauregard. The First Battle of Bull Run ended with a Union Army retreat, and 3,000 soldiers were left missing in action, wounded, or dead. The Confederates were left with 2,000 casualties.[1]
