July 28, 2025: Out of all 50 state legislatures, Nebraska is the only state with a unicameral legislature. Nebraska's state legislature is also unique in the sense that it is the only state legislature that is entirely nonpartisan.
In 2006, an unsuccessful effort to collect petition signatures was launched in Michigan to provide for an amendment to the state's constitution to change from a bicameral to a unicameral legislature. It failed to qualify for the November 2006 ballot.
