July 30, 2025: Sixty-nine years ago, on July 30, 1956, President Eisenhower officially signed into law the addition of “In God We Trust” to our nation’s motto. “In God We Trust” had been on U.S. coins since the Civil War, but it would be added to paper bills as well in 1957. This addition was suggested by the treasury secretary at the time, George Humphrey.[1]
