Scott Rasmussen's Number of the Day for July 5, 2022
The Number of the Day columns published on Ballotpedia reflect the views of the author.
July 5, 2022: Forty-seven percent (47%) of voters think that the publicity given to the perpetrators of mass shootings encourages others to commit similar, copycat shootings. A Scott Rasmussen national survey found that just 20% disagree, and 33% are not sure.
The survey also found that 45% of voters believe media outlets should voluntarily agree to never publish or release the name of a mass shooter. Twenty-eight percent oppose such a voluntary agreement, and 27% are not sure.
Methodology
The survey of 1,200 registered voters was conducted online by Scott Rasmussen on June 21-23, 2022. Fieldwork for the survey was conducted by RMG Research, Inc. Certain quotas were applied, and the sample was lightly weighted by geography, gender, age, race, education, internet usage, and political party to reasonably reflect the nation’s population of registered voters. Other variables were reviewed to ensure that the final sample is representative of that population.
The margin of sampling error for the full sample is +/- 2.8 percentage points.
