July 6, 2022: Fifty-seven percent (57%) of voters believe that big tech companies actively work to silence viewpoints different from their own, including 70% of Republicans and 48% of Democrats. A Scott Rasmussen national survey found that just 15% disagree, and 29% are not sure.
The survey also found that 56% of voters think that online censorship by big tech companies is a serious threat to freedom of speech. This includes 70% of Republicans and 46% of Democrats. Twenty-three percent (23%) think it is not a serious threat, and 21% are not sure.
Methodology
The survey of 1,200 registered voters was conducted online by Scott Rasmussen on June 21-23, 2022. Fieldwork for the survey was conducted by RMG Research, Inc. Certain quotas were applied, and the sample was lightly weighted by geography, gender, age, race, education, internet usage, and political party to reasonably reflect the nation’s population of registered voters. Other variables were reviewed to ensure that the final sample is representative of that population.
The margin of sampling error for the full sample is +/- 2.8 percentage points.
