July 7, 2023: Between 1920 and 2018, 14% of all U.S. House general elections had only one major party candidate. During that time, there were 2,434 U.S. House races without a Republican candidate, and 707 without a Democratic Candidate.
In 2018, there were 41 such races. That number dropped to 27 in 2020, but rose again to 35 in 2022.
