The Number of the Day columns published on Ballotpedia reflect the views of the author.
June 17, 2022: Eighty-six percent (86%) of voters say it is important for states and local governments to clean their voter registration rolls before each election. A Scott Rasmussen national survey found that 8% think it is not important and 5% are not sure. These totals include 65% who think it is very important and 3% who think it is not at all important.
The survey also found that 71% say people should be automatically removed from the voter rolls in their old states when they get driver’s licenses in new states. Eighty-six percent (86%) say people should be automatically removed from the voter registration rolls when they die. Seventy-seven percent (77%) believe that, to clean up the voter rolls, the federal government should compile a database of people who are registered to vote in more than one state.
Methodology
The survey of 1,200 registered voters was conducted online by Scott Rasmussen on June 2-5, 2022. Fieldwork for the survey was conducted by RMG Research, Inc. Certain quotas were applied, and the sample was lightly weighted by geography, gender, age, race, education, internet usage, and political party to reasonably reflect the nation’s population of registered voters. Other variables were reviewed to ensure that the final sample is representative of that population.
The margin of sampling error for the full sample is +/- 2.8 percentage points.
Note: Neither Scott Rasmussen, ScottRasmussen.com, nor RMG Research, Inc. have any affiliation with Rasmussen Reports. While Scott Rasmussen founded that firm, he left nearly a decade ago and has had no involvement since that time.
