June 20, 2019: Fifty-one percent (51%) of all advertising dollars are now spent on digital platforms. That represents a huge increase from 20% in 2010.[1]
The Bond Internet Trends report compiled by Mary Meeker reports that 34% of ad money now goes to television, 8% to radio, and 7% to print media.
Another big change since 2010 is that ad spending now closely aligns with the time Americans devote to various media options.
Fifty-one percent (51%) of media time is spent online, and 51% of ad spending goes there. Thirty-four percent (34%) of media time is spent watching television, matching the 34% of ad money spent on television.
In 2010, 33% of media time was spent online, but digital platforms attracted less than 20% of ad revenue.
At that time, before the ad agencies adapted to the changing world, print media sources attracted 8% of media time but received more than 27% of ad dollars.
