The Number of the Day columns published on Ballotpedia reflect the views of the author.
June 20, 2022: Eighty-eight percent (88%) of voters believe it is important for children to be raised in a household with both their father and mother present, including 58% who say it is very important. A Scott Rasmussen national survey found that just 10% think it is not important, including 4% who say it is not at all important, and 2% are not sure.
The survey also found that 59% say that children raised without their father present are at a significant disadvantage over other children. 51% agree that they are more likely than other children to live in poverty, and 39% that they are more likely to end up in jail at some point. Fifty-nine percent (59%) believe it is the role of the father to be the head of the household.
Methodology
The survey of 1,200 registered voters was conducted online by Scott Rasmussen on June 9-10, 2022. Fieldwork for the survey was conducted by RMG Research, Inc. Certain quotas were applied, and the sample was lightly weighted by geography, gender, age, race, education, internet usage, and political party to reasonably reflect the nation’s population of registered voters. Other variables were reviewed to ensure that the final sample is representative of that population.
The margin of sampling error for the full sample is +/- 2.8 percentage points.
