June 21, 2018: Eighty percent (80%) of voters believe that political and business leaders make bad decisions because they are worried about being politically correct. A Fox News poll finds that 46% believe this happens frequently while another 34% believe it sometimes happens. Only 15% think it rarely or never happens.[1]

The belief that fears about political correctness lead to bad decisions is shared by 89% of Republicans and 72% of Democrats.

An earlier Number of the Day found that 79% of Americans find hate speech morally unacceptable. However, while few consider hate speech morally acceptable, most Americans (59%) do not want the government to ban it. One of the reasons is that 82% of Americans recognize that people can’t agree on what speech is hateful and offensive.

A more recent Number of the Day noted that 70% of Dartmouth students would be less likely to date someone with different political views.

Each weekday, Scott Rasmussen’s Number of the Day explores interesting and newsworthy topics at the intersection of culture, politics, and technology.
