June 25, 2024: In 49 states, voters are required to register to vote. Methods can vary, including in-person registration at state government offices, online registration, registering by mail, and registering through voter registration drives. Some states allow automatic voter registration, for example when people get drivers licenses, and some allow same-day registration.
