Scott Rasmussen's Number of the Day for June 26, 2019
The Number of the Day columns published on Ballotpedia reflect the views of the author.
June 26, 2019: In 2018, the median age of those living in the United States was 38.2 years. That means half of all Americans are older than 38.2 and half are younger.[1]
The results confirm other data showing that our nation’s population is aging. The median age today is a full year older than it was in 2010.
Maine has a higher median age than any other state—44.9 years. Utah has the lowest at 31.0 years. Only one state—North Dakota—has gotten younger over the past decade. Its median age fell from 37.0 years in 2010 to 35.2 in 2018.
The United States is not alone in the aging process: “More than 4 out of every 5 counties were older in 2018 than in 2010.”
