Scott Rasmussen's Number of the Day for June 3, 2024
The Number of the Day columns published on Ballotpedia reflect the views of the author.
June 3, 2024: Thirty-five years ago, on June 3, 1989, the Chinese government sent in the military to forcibly put down pro-democracy protests that had been taking place in Beijing’s Tiananmen Square and in other cities around the country since mid-April. After weeks of these student-led protests, the government finally sent in tanks to clear the square, which was finally accomplished the next morning, on June 4. The death toll is unknown, but estimates range between several hundred and several thousand.[1]
