March 12, 2024: Eighty-four percent (84%) of voters say that parents should be required to give consent for significant medical decisions for children under 18. A Scott Rasmussen national survey conducted by RMG Research found that just 10% believe that children should be able to make their own choices about medical treatments.

Methodology

The survey of 1,000 registered voters was conducted online by Scott Rasmussen on February 26-27, 2024. Field work for the survey was conducted by RMG Research, Inc. Certain quotas were applied, and the sample was lightly weighted by geography, gender, age, race, education, internet usage, and political party to reasonably reflect the nation’s population of registered voters. Other variables were reviewed to ensure that the final sample is representative of that population. The margin of sampling error for the full sample is +/- 3.1 percentage points.

Survey Questions

Should children under 18 be allowed to make medical decisions on their own about things like vaccines, prescription medications, and surgery? Or, should parental approval be required for significant medical treatments and procedures?

  • 10% -Children should be able to make their own choices
