March 15, 2023: 2066 years ago, on March 15, 44 BC, Julius Caesar was assassinated on the steps of the Roman Senate. Julius Caesar had declared himself dictator for life earlier in the year, and his assassination was carried out by senators who feared his increasing power. In the end, his assassination led to the downfall of the Roman Republic and the rise of the Roman Empire.[1]
