March 22, 2018: YouTube paid $3.2 billion to more than 1.8 million independent U.S. creators in 2016.[1] Overall, on nine leading platforms, 14.2 million independent Americans earned a total of $5.9 billion.
These numbers come from the Re:Create Coalition, an advocacy group that addresses copyright issues. The organization says that it represents "a cross-section of creators, advocates, thinkers and consumers” and claims, “There has been no better time for creativity in history.”
