March 27, 2023: 229 years ago today, on March 27, 1794, the U.S. government established a permanent Navy and ordered that six ships be built. One of those was the USS Constitution, which was built for $302,718, equivalent to just over $7 million today, and is the world’s oldest unsunk ship.[1][2][3]
