March 30, 2018: Easter Sunday celebrates the resurrection of Jesus Christ and is the most significant holiday of the year for Christians. It is celebrated widely in the United States, where 71% of Americans identify as Christians.[1]
That figure includes 25% who belong to evangelical Christian denominations, 20% Catholics, 15% mainline Protestants, and 7% attending historically black Protestant churches.
Fifty-one percent (51%) of Americans will attend church on Easter Sunday, and 60% will share an Easter meal with family and friends.[2]
Among those celebrating Easter, the average person will spend $150 for a national total of $18 billion in Easter sales.[2]
