March 5, 2024: Two-thirds (67%) of voters say that they use coins and paper money nearly every day (17%), most days (21%), or about once a week (29%). A Scott Rasmussen national survey conducted by RMG Research found that only 13% of voters say they rarely or never use coins and paper money.

The survey also found that 68% of voters either strongly oppose (47%) or somewhat oppose (21%) a proposal to eliminate coins and paper money so that all transactions would be conducted using a central digital currency.

Methodology

The survey of 1,000 registered voters was conducted online by Scott Rasmussen on February 26-27, 2024. Field work for the survey was conducted by RMG Research, Inc. Certain quotas were applied, and the sample was lightly weighted by geography, gender, age, race, education, internet usage, and political party to reasonably reflect the nation’s population of registered voters. Other variables were reviewed to ensure that the final sample is representative of that population. The margin of sampling error for the full sample is +/- 3.1 percentage points.
