May 14, 2018: Philanthropic foundations in the United States hold $890 billion worth of assets. That’s far more than any other nation in the world.[1]

The Netherlands is the only other country with more than $100 billion worth of assets in philanthropic foundations.

An earlier Number of the Day noted that 62.6 million volunteers in the United States use their freedom to work together in community. Their volunteer work annually is valued at $184 billion.
