May 17, 2024: Seventy years ago, on May 17, 1954, racial segregation in American schools was ruled unconstitutional by the U.S. Supreme Court in Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka. The unanimous decision faced wide opposition, but eventually led to the desegregation of public schools nationwide.[1]
