May 20, 2024: 151 years ago, on May 20, 1873, Levi Strauss and Jacob Davis received a patent for work pants that included metal rivets. Davis was a customer of Staruss’s and wrote to him about a method of adding metal rivets to make work pants stronger. Davis did not have the money for all the required patent paperwork, so the two men applied together. Their creation would become what we know today as blue jeans.[1]
