May 21, 2019: In what may be the start of a new space race, NASA has announced a new goal of landing people on the moon by 2024.[1] A ScottRasmussen.com national survey found that 37% of voters believe the government agency will accomplish that goal before private companies. However, 36% believe private efforts will get there first. Another 27% are not sure who will win the race.[2]
Seventy-six percent (76%) favor NASA’s plan for returning to the moon. However, just 49% are okay with spending an extra $1.6 billion this year to get the project moving.
Twenty-one percent (21%) believe that only private companies should be handling space travel, while 20% think only the government should be involved. Most (59%) think both should make the effort.
