Scott Rasmussen's Number of the Day for May 22, 2024
The Number of the Day columns published on Ballotpedia reflect the views of the author.
May 22, 2024: Seventy-eight percent (78%) of voters believe that students have the right to peacefully protest in support of Hamas and the Palestinians if, while protesting, they do not threaten other people, destroy private property, or block access to classes and other campus events. A Scott Rasmussen national survey conducted by RMG Research found that just 16% disagree.
However, the survey also found that voters disapprove of the recent protests by a 2-1 margin (60% to 31%), including 41% who strongly disapprove. By a margin of 47% to 36%, voters say that most of the recent campus protests have been marred by violence rather than peaceful.
Methodology
The survey of 1,000 registered voters was conducted online by Scott Rasmussen on May 13-14, 2024. Field work for the survey was conducted by RMG Research, Inc. Certain quotas were applied, and the sample was lightly weighted by geography, gender, age, race, education, internet usage, and political party to reasonably reflect the nation’s population of registered voters. Other variables were reviewed to ensure that the final sample is representative of that population. The margin of sampling error for the full sample is +/- 3.1 percentage points.
