May 28, 2025: Eight of the United States’ largest 100 cities use or are scheduled to use RCV for their city elections: Oakland and San Francisco in California; Washington, D.C.; Minneapolis and St. Paul in Minnesota; New York, New York; Portland, Oregon; and Seattle, Washington. Boston may become the ninth of the 100 largest cities to adopt the voting style. There is contention amongst the city council members in Boston about RCV as some say it is a better democratic tool, yet others say it could create confusion at the ballot for voters.
