The Number of the Day columns published on Ballotpedia reflect the views of the author.
May 3, 2024: When informed that Title IX is a 1972 law that makes discrimination based on the sex of a student illegal in colleges and education programs that receive federal funding, 74% of voters have favorable opinions of it. A Scott Rasmussen national survey conducted by RMG Research found that just 14% have unfavorable views.
However, the survey also found that, before hearing an explanation of Title IX, just 25% say they know what it is. Of that 25%, only 15% - 4% of all voters - correctly defined it. An additional 15% of those who say they know what Title IX is - 13% of all voters - say that it is broadly something about women’s sports, gender discrimination, or civil rights.
Methodology
The survey of 1,000 registered voters was conducted online by Scott Rasmussen on April 22-23, 2024. Field work for the survey was conducted by RMG Research, Inc. Certain quotas were applied, and the sample was lightly weighted by geography, gender, age, race, education, internet usage, and political party to reasonably reflect the nation’s population of registered voters. Other variables were reviewed to ensure that the final sample is representative of that population. The margin of sampling error for the full sample is +/- 3.1 percentage points.
Note: Neither Scott Rasmussen, ScottRasmussen.com, nor RMG Research, Inc. have any affiliation with Rasmussen Reports. While Scott Rasmussen founded that firm, he left nearly a decade ago and has had no involvement since that time.
