May 31, 2022: Seventy-two percent (72%) of voters favor expanding oil and gas drilling on federal lands to increase fossil fuel production and reduce energy prices. A Scott Rasmussen national survey found that 21% oppose expanding drilling, and 8% are not sure. The numbers include 39% who strongly favor and 9% who strongly oppose.
The survey also found that more than 62% of both Democrats and Republicans support expanded drilling to increase fossil fuel production and reduce energy prices.
Methodology
The survey of 1,200 registered voters was conducted online by Scott Rasmussen on May 17-19, 2022. Fieldwork for the survey was conducted by RMG Research, Inc. Certain quotas were applied, and the sample was lightly weighted by geography, gender, age, race, education, internet usage, and political party to reasonably reflect the nation’s population of registered voters. Other variables were reviewed to ensure that the final sample is representative of that population.
The margin of sampling error for the full sample is +/- 2.8 percentage points.
