May 9, 2023: Seventy-nine percent (79%) of voters believe public schools should teach that America was founded on ideals of freedom, equality, and self-governance; that we have a tragic history of racial injustice; and that we have made and continue to make progress. A Scott Rasmussen national survey found that just 19% think public schools should teach that America was founded on racial oppression and white supremacy, that the founders were racist, and that we should reject the system they created.
The survey also found that 82% believe parents should be able to see all curriculum plans, 55% that public school boards do not respect the role of parents, and 49% that many schools teach a racial ideology that would be offensive to parents.
Methodology
The survey of 1,000 registered voters was conducted online by Scott Rasmussen on April 27-29, 2023. Field work for the survey was conducted by RMG Research, Inc. Certain quotas were applied, and the sample was lightly weighted by geography, gender, age, race, education, internet usage, and political party to reasonably reflect the nation’s population of registered voters. Other variables were reviewed to ensure that the final sample is representative of that population.
The margin of sampling error for the full sample is +/- 3.1 percentage points.
