Scott Rasmussen's Number of the Day for November 12, 2018

November 12, 2018: Despite fears that smartphones are causing children to withdraw from social activities, 42% of children ages 6 to 17 participate in sports. The Census Bureau reports that’s actually an increase in sports participation since 1998. Twenty years ago, just 36% of such children took part in athletic activities.[1]
That increase in sports engagement may have been offset by lower participation in clubs. Just 28% of school-aged children now take part in clubs, down from 35% 20 years ago.
Nearly one out of three school-aged children (30%) also take some form of lessons outside the normal school day. That’s pretty much the same as in 1998.
Each weekday, Scott Rasmussen’s Number of the Day explores interesting and newsworthy topics at the intersection of culture, politics, and technology.
