November 14, 2025: Eleven shutdowns have happened throughout US history that lasted for at least a day with agency closures and furloughs. At the end of the day on November 4th, the current federal government shutdown had become the longest in U.S. history at 35 days. This shutdown is also the first that has seen SNAP benefits be interrupted. The president who oversaw the most shutdowns was Ronald Reagan, at four. Currently, through Trump’s two terms in office, he has overseen three.
